Documentary on RI Veterans involved in D-Day premieres May 28th
By George W. Reilly Veterans Journal Editor
Interviews were conducted with local D-Day and World War II veterans,
and five of them traveled to Normandy and Ste. Mere Eglise, France,
in March for several days of filming there. Some of the Rhody war
veterans were returning for the first time since they landed on
the beaches on June 6, 1944, and they share their impressions and
memories in the film.
The stories of Rhode Island soldiers buried under the white crosses
at the American Cemetery at Colleville, above Omaha Beach, also
are told. The documentary will be shown on WJAR (Channel 10) on
June 6 and 18 at 11 a.m.
Veterans of the D-Day invasion who have not submitted their names
or those of family members to Peloquin or Gray to be listed in the
documentary should send the name and branch of service to Peloquin.
